Nepali teenager Nima Rinji Sherpa sets a new world record by conquering Earth's 14 highest peaks.
Nima Rinji Sherpa, an 18-year-old Nepalese mountaineer, has set a world record by becoming the youngest climber to scale all 14 of Earth's highest peaks. According to the BBC, his remarkable journey concluded on October 9 at around 6:05 AM local time when he reached the summit of Mount Shishapangma in Tibet.
With this feat, Rinji joins an exclusive group of climbers who have conquered the world's "eight-thousanders"—mountains recognized by the UIAA as standing over 8,000 meters above sea level. Rinji began his high-altitude climbing career at the age of 16 and achieved this milestone in just 740 days.

Nima Rinji, also the youngest to scale several other major peaks like Mount Everest and Nanga Parbat, aims to challenge the traditional view of Sherpas as mere climbing assistants. He encourages young Sherpas to embrace their potential as top athletes and adventurers. His latest achievement is a tribute to his heritage, and he seeks to inspire others to see the dignity in their work and the boundless opportunities ahead.
Nima comes from a family of record-breaking mountaineers who run Nepal’s largest expedition company, Seven Summit Treks. His father, Tashi Lakpa Sherpa, expressed pride when Nima informed him of his success via satellite phone. The previous record holder, Mingma Gyabu Sherpa, achieved the feat at age 30 in 2019.
